Miles Deodorant

I worked with Miles Deodorant in 2022 through Kirgan Consulting, an Amazon FBA agency, to launch a breakthrough teen-focused personal care brand.

Founded in 2021 by a former Target executive, Miles Deodorant launched as an award-winning personal care brand specifically designed for teens and tweens who wanted something different.

The company identified a critical gap in the natural deodorant market—products that weren't overly masculine or feminine, instead focusing on individuality and clean ingredients completely free from aluminum, parabens, and phthalates.

My role involved comprehensive design support across multiple touchpoints as Miles prepared to launch exclusively through Amazon and major big-box retailers like Target.

The project scope included retouching existing product photography, creating educational graphics for digital marketing campaigns, developing a complete Shopify marketing website, and designing their entire Amazon store presence.

Challenge:

Miles needed to break through the crowded deodorant market by clearly communicating their unique value proposition to health-conscious parents while appealing to teens who wanted products that reflected their individual personalities rather than traditional gender stereotypes.

Solution:

Created an integrated brand experience across multiple platforms using professional photo retouching, over 100 educational graphics, a strategic Shopify marketing website, and optimized Amazon store design that resulted in six-figure first-year sales and successful retail expansion.

Services:

• Photo Retouching

• Digital Marketing

• Shopify Store Setup

• Amazon FBA Setup

• Branding Design

• Graphics Creation

Role + Team:

Freelance Designer | I collaborated with Kirgan Consulting and the owner of Miles to successfully launch their website and establish their brand presence on Amazon FBA.

Key Phases:

• Photo Retouching

• Graphics Creation

• Shopify Store Setup

• Website Launch

• Amazon Store Setup

• Digital Marketing & Amazon Ads

Multiple Projects Over A Few Months

"Working with Nik was absolutely crucial to Miles launch. As a solo founder juggling product development, manufacturing, and business strategy, I needed someone who could take our vision and translate it into professional, sales-ready assets across multiple platforms.

Not only did he and Melanie elevate our existing photography and create over 100 graphics, they also built us a website that perfectly balances teaching and selling Miles to customers.

Most importantly, their Amazon store design has been instrumental in helping us achieve six-figure sales in our first year and secure partnerships with major retailers like Target. Their strategic thinking around our business model—understanding that we needed to focus on manufacturing while outsourcing fulfillment—showed they truly grasped our needs beyond just the design work."

Photo Retouching

The first project involved elevating product photography originally created by Buddy Buddy Co., along with their initial branding and packaging design, to meet professional e-commerce standards.

My responsibility was delivering high-level retouching to ensure all product images exceeded professional sales standards. This included removing dust, blemishes, and marks from products, preparing everything on clean white backgrounds optimized for e-commerce platforms, and enhancing lifestyle photos with proper shadows and professional finishing touches.

All retouching work was completed using Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop to create a cohesive, polished product image library that would serve as the foundation for all subsequent marketing materials and drive higher conversion rates across every sales channel.

Need For Graphics

Beyond clean product photography, Miles needed digital marketing graphics that would educate consumers about why their deodorant outperformed competitors in the crowded natural deodorant space.

Since the brand specifically targets health-conscious moms and parents seeking organic deodorant options for their children, the educational component was crucial for conversion success. The challenge was communicating Miles' superior formula and natural ingredient benefits in a way that would cut through market noise and drive purchase decisions.

Rather than relying solely on product photos, we created strategic informational graphics that would work seamlessly across Amazon, their website, and social media platforms to clearly articulate the brand's value proposition and unique competitive advantages.

Rather than relying solely on product photos, we created strategic informational graphics that would work seamlessly across Amazon, their website, and social media platforms to clearly articulate the brand's value proposition and unique competitive advantages.

Creating Graphics

We developed a comprehensive icon system that built upon the existing branding foundation from Buddy Buddy Co., strategically incorporating professional stock imagery alongside lifestyle and branded packaging photography to create maximum visual impact.

The graphics series focused heavily on communicating what Miles doesn't contain—no aluminum, parabens, phthalates, or formaldehyde—as these were the clear market differentiators that health-conscious parents were actively seeking. We also highlighted appealing scent profiles and natural ingredients like lemon, vanilla, jasmine, cedar, cinnamon, and amber to help parents confidently understand their product options.

The goal was creating educational content that would build trust and confidence among parents while appealing to teens' desire for products that reflected their individual personalities rather than limiting traditional gender stereotypes.

Website & Amazon

After creating the core graphics, we needed to format them specifically for both Shopify and Amazon's unique technical requirements and display specifications.

Amazon's page builder has very specific proportions and layout constraints that required us to completely retool the website graphics for optimal display performance on their platform. In total, we created over 100 different graphics that were strategically optimized for three distinct use cases: the Shopify marketing website, Amazon store pages, and social media platforms including Instagram and Facebook.

All graphics were built in Adobe Illustrator using scalable vector formats to ensure they could be templated, scaled, and adapted for various layouts while maintaining consistent brand quality and professional appearance across all customer touchpoints.

Shopify Setup

We selected Shopify as the platform for Miles Deodorant because they were a physical product e-commerce business that needed maximum flexibility for their evolving business model and growth strategy.

During late 2022 and early 2023, there was uncertainty about whether Miles would fulfill orders directly or rely exclusively on Amazon for sales and distribution. To keep their strategic options open, we built the website as a full e-commerce site initially, then strategically retooled it to function as a marketing website with integrated Amazon buy-now buttons on all product and category pages.

This approach allowed customers to discover and research products on the branded website before purchasing through Amazon, while preserving the possibility of direct fulfillment opportunities in the future.

Marketing Website

The website ultimately transformed into a purely marketing-focused platform, which proved to be the perfect strategic decision for Carly as a solo business owner focused on growth and profitability.

Rather than managing the operational complexity of direct-to-consumer fulfillment, inventory management, and customer service, the marketing website allows Miles to focus on customer education, brand building, and qualified lead generation that drives sales.

The site features detailed product information, press coverage, exclusive discount codes, and newsletter signups, creating a comprehensive brand experience that drives high-intent, qualified traffic to their Amazon listings and increases conversion rates.

In 2025, Miles continues to operate exclusively through Amazon and major big-box retailers, validating this strategic approach and allowing the business to scale efficiently.

Amazon Setup

Our primary objective after completing the website was establishing Miles on Amazon through our strategic partnership with Kirgan Consulting to maximize their revenue potential on the platform.

While Kirgan handled the backend logistics—merchant registration, warehouse setup, and account management—I focused on designing the complete Amazon store layout and creating all necessary platform-specific graphics for maximum conversion impact.

We started with detailed wireframes for the store pages, then created and adapted graphics from the website specifically for Amazon's unique requirements and strict display specifications.

The comprehensive deliverables included a custom homepage, category pages, and individual product pages, along with A+ content for the bottom of product listing pages where sellers can add fully customized graphics and information before customers see competitor products.

Primary Point Of Sale

Amazon serves as Miles' exclusive online sales channel, with the brand strategically choosing not to sell directly through their website to maximize operational efficiency and profitability.

This approach allows Amazon to handle fulfillment, shipping, and customer service while Miles focuses on their core competencies of product development and manufacturing excellence. The only other sales channels are high-value partnerships with major retailers like Target, HEB, and CVS, making the Amazon store design critically important as the primary digital customer touchpoint.

Since we were launching the business from scratch, the project was streamlined—we could retool existing assets and create a cohesive brand experience without working around legacy systems or established processes that might limit our creative strategy.

Solution:

The integrated solution for Miles Deodorant involved four key components that worked together to successfully launch their brand and drive measurable results.

We started with professional photo retouching to ensure all product imagery exceeded e-commerce standards, then created over 100 educational graphics highlighting their natural ingredients and key differentiators like being aluminum-free and paraben-free.

The Shopify marketing website serves as a strategic brand hub that educates customers and drives qualified traffic to Amazon through seamlessly integrated buy-now buttons, while the custom Amazon store design maximizes their primary sales channel with optimized homepage, category pages, and A+ content.

This integrated approach allowed Miles to focus on manufacturing excellence while outsourcing fulfillment and sales operations, resulting in six-figure first-year revenue and successful expansion into major retailers like Target.

Reflections:

Business model clarity accelerates growth - Miles' strategic decision to outsource fulfillment from day one allowed them to focus on their core competency of product development rather than getting bogged down in operational complexity

Educational content drives conversions - In a crowded deodorant market, graphics that clearly communicated what Miles doesn't contain (aluminum, parabens, phthalates) were more effective than traditional product-focused imagery

Platform-specific optimization maximizes impact - Amazon's strict image requirements meant we couldn't simply repurpose website graphics; each platform needed tailored assets for maximum conversion potential

Strategic partnerships multiply results - Working with Kirgan Consulting for Amazon expertise while I handled design created a more comprehensive solution than either could provide independently

Brand consistency builds trust - Using the same visual system across 100+ graphics for website, Amazon, and social media reinforced Miles' professional credibility and market positioning

Target audience research pays dividends - Understanding that moms were the primary decision-makers helped us focus messaging on safety and natural ingredients rather than just teen appeal, resulting in higher conversion rates
