Concert Posters
My illustration work for chart-topping country artist Morgan Wallen and acclaimed Southern rockers Blackberry Smoke transformed concert merchandise into coveted collector's items while reaching over 120,000 fans.
This case study examines my design process for Wallen's 2022 Dangerous Tour and Blackberry Smoke's annual Holiday Homecoming charity show. The 1,500 printed posters generated approximately $60,000 in merchandise revenue and have since entered the collector market, reselling for premium prices on platforms like eBay.
The following sections detail my creative process, project challenges, and the measurable impact of these high-profile collaborations.

Partnership Across 3 Short Projects
"Nikolai is a rockstar, and helped us out when we were in a pinch saving us during our 2022 Morgan Wallen, Dangerous Tour.
He was able to create 3 amazing tour posters when we could not find anyone else in NY State. If it was not for him we would not have had any posters for this tour in NY."

Morgan Wallen Concert Posters
Working with Morgan Wallen's team presented an extraordinary opportunity that emerged through my online portfolio. Their tour manager discovered my work and reached out to create something exceptional for their New York shows.
Morgan's fanbase demonstrates incredible dedication, and they wanted posters that would resonate with that audience while standing out from typical concert merchandise. The brief remained flexible—requiring tour information and dates while granting complete creative freedom for visual direction.
The opportunity to create collectible artwork for thousands of fans drove my creative vision to capture both Morgan's country roots and the electric energy of his live performances, creating pieces fans would treasure long after the concert experience.

2022 Dangerous Tour
The 2022 Dangerous Tour achieved massive commercial success, grossing over $100 million from nearly 850,000 tickets across 55 shows.
I created posters for the New York State shows during summer 2022, including the Syracuse performance at St. Joseph's Health Amphitheater on July 8th. The tour featured opening acts HARDY and Larry Fleet, requiring strategic integration of all artist information.
Supporting Morgan's "Dangerous: The Double Album"—the best-selling country album of 2021—I incorporated visual elements referencing songs from the record to create deeper fan connection.
The experience of seeing my artwork displayed on massive venue screens for audiences of up to 30,000 people per night was extraordinary. Witnessing fans queue at merchandise booths specifically to purchase my designs provided incredible validation as a professional artist.

Blackberry Smoke Holiday Show
The Blackberry Smoke project materialized after the Morgan Wallen posters gained industry attention. Their tour manager contacted me to create posters for their annual "Brothers and Sisters Holiday Homecoming" show, held the day after Thanksgiving.
This Atlanta tradition combines live performance with fundraising for childhood cancer research. The event holds special significance as their drummer Brit Turner's daughter Lana was diagnosed with stage IV neuroblastoma at age three but achieved full recovery.
Through this annual event, they've raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for children's cancer organizations over the years.
Designing for a charitable cause added meaningful dimension to this project—these posters transcended mere merchandise to become part of something directly impacting families facing childhood cancer.
Concept Exploration
My illustration approach for both projects followed a strategic framework.
Tour managers provided essential parameters: "We need a poster with this specific text. Creative direction is entirely yours." My process began with Pinterest research, studying concert poster designs within country music and Southern rock genres.
I identified imagery connecting to band identity, show themes, and album concepts referenced in their music. All illustrations were hand-drawn using Procreate on iPad, then exported to Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop for text integration and vector element refinement.
For Morgan Wallen, I developed a rustic, weathered aesthetic incorporating song references and "dangerous" thematic elements. For Blackberry Smoke, I integrated Southern imagery with subtle nods to their charitable mission, maintaining authenticity to their Southern rock heritage while creating something special for their annual homecoming celebration.
